The Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati is the latest creation from the historic Italian design house Zagato, marking the continuation of a long-standing partnership with the iconic Maserati brand. The roadster version of the Mostro is inspired by the 1957 Maserati 450S Coupe Zagato and is built in limited quantities, with only five exemplars being made available to Zagato’s collector clients. The car is designed to be a modern interpretation of the classic barchetta style, with a focus on performance and driver engagement.

The Mostro Barchetta is built around a carbon-fiber MonoCell chassis and features an innovative composite structure for the windscreen frame and a rear steel subframe that carries the fuel tank, exhaust system, rear suspension, and differential. The car weighs just 1,200kg and has a 50:50 weight distribution, making it well-suited to high-performance driving.
Under the hood, the Mostro Barchetta is powered by either a 414bhp 4.2-liter Maserati V8 or a 3.0-liter, 621bhp Maserati V6, borrowed from the new MC20 supercar. The engine is mounted in a front-mid position, connected to a manual sequential six-speed gearbox for an authentic racing experience.

The car’s double-wishbone suspension is paired with a pushrod spring/shock setup, providing excellent handling and stability. Large AP Racing brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear provide ample stopping power. The car rolls on 19-inch single-nut alloys, wrapped in high-performance tires.
The exterior of the Mostro Barchetta is designed by Zagato’s Vice President of Design, Norihiko Harada, and takes inspiration from the classic barchettas of the 1950s. The car’s compact size and sleek, aerodynamic lines evoke the look of a speedboat racer, while the wrap-around windscreen and two seats add to its sporty character.

The Mostro Barchetta offers an unadulterated driving experience, with no electronic traction control to detract from the driver’s control. The manual sequential gearbox is mounted to the engine block, making shifts fast and precise. The absence of electronic aids provides a raw and thrilling driving experience, while the car’s light weight, excellent weight distribution, and responsive suspension ensure it handles like a dream on the track or on the road.
Zagato’s President, Andrea Zagato, has stated that the Mostro Barchetta is a perfect fusion of technology and heritage, with a focus on the union between brutal power and beauty. The car’s design and driving characteristics are intended to evoke the same emotions in drivers today that the original Maserati Mostro did in the 1950s.

For those lucky enough to secure one of the five available Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati, the car can be customized to their exact specifications during the ordering process, allowing for a truly one-of-a-kind driving experience. Whether on the track or on the road, the Mostro Barchetta is sure to turn heads and thrill drivers with its combination of classic style and modern performance.
